Cold days, frosty windows, soft snow outside — there’s something magical about winter. Once I get used to the cold days and short days (I hate when I get up and it's still dark and get back from work and it's already dark...) I like winter because it comes with the Christmas season, German's Christmas Markets and cozy evenings and weekends at home cuddling under a blanket.
If you like to bring that magic indoors, there’s nothing like a little handmade wall art to add warmth, charm and a cozy seasonal vibe.
In this post (and the video tutorial below), I’ll show you how to create beautiful, printable winter-themed wall art using the free version of Affinity Studio. No expensive software, no fancy equipment — just imagination, a few simple tools, and a willingness to experiment.
I usually make it easy: I have some frames that hang in my home all year and then I just exchange the wall art - quick and easy (and definitely inexpensive decoration! Besides that it makes a beautiful digital product for sale in my shop (or, for better value in my Pepper Printable Club).
Why This Winter Wall Art Is a Great Creative Project

Print, Frame & Display — Making It Real
Don't forget: No matter if you create this wall art for yourself or for sale it's essential that you print your artwork bevor you sell it. You wanna know if "it works" - meaning: Does it look crisp? Is it centered? Does the font look nice?
After exporting:
Print the art on quality paper or cardstock.
Trim carefully if you printed with margins.
Frame it — or mount it on cardboard / decorative hanger / clipboard.
Hang it on a wall, place it on a shelf, or give it as a handcrafted winter gift.
One small piece can completely change the vibe of a room — turning cold winter days into cozy, art-filled moments.

Creative Ideas & Variations to Explore
Once you've tried the base design, the creative possibilities are endless:
Create a set of 3–5 matching winter prints — perfect for a gallery wall.
Make seasonal variations: minimal winter, holiday-themed, cozy home-winter, snowy forest, Nordic style.
Try colour shifts: black & white for a minimalist look; muted tones for a Scandinavian feel; or warm pastels for a cozy winter-morning atmosphere.
Add handwritten elements — maybe a personal quote, a poem, or a name/date to turn it into a gift piece.
Use the design as a printable card or postcard — not just wall art.
This simple winter art tutorial becomes a versatile base for all kinds of creative projects.
