A Place to sell your Digital Designs

I'm proud to say the least. Actually I'm super proud. Why? Because I've finally been accepted to Creative Market. (Have a look at my store here). If you don't know the website and you are a designer, well, you should go right over there because you can get some really nice free goods - when you become a member. Previously, you'd get six free goods per week - but they just came with a personal license. So you could try them out but if you'd want to create something you'd need to buy the commercial license anyway.

Now, when you become a member, you don't only get credits to purchase whatever you want but also access to the "Monthly Design Drops" which are worth up to $1,000!
So all in all I believe it's a good deal.

What is Creative Market?

Creative Market is the go-to place if you are looking for graphic assets to use to create new products from and sell them. Yes, that's right. If you buy a commercial use license of a product you can create something from it and sell it. You can basically find everything there - from Photoshop Actions to Procreate Brushes, from Social Media Templates to Textures - and much more!
According to Creative Market their community has a size of 5 Million people so you can imagine how many people visit the website each and every day. And that´s why we, as graphic designers or illustrators, should be eager to sell there - it's also good for our reputation because not anyone is able to join.

When you apply there it is really not granted that you can open a shop. They want to see your products upfront. They want you to show them a whole bunch of products so you can upload a bunch when you start (talking about 10-20 products here).
The earning potential is huge because of their huge community and the huge amount of designers who are with them and therefore promote the products they sell there and bring new and returning visitors to the platform.

Should you try to sell at Creative Market?

Since I believe that it is one of the best platforms to sell on my recommendation is: Go for it! If you are serious about designing and if you want to make money from your designs this is definitely a good place.
The point is though that there are a LOT of places where you can sell your digital designs. Creative Market is one of the biggest and therefore one of the most known and respected in the industry. However, if you feel better to sell at another scrapbook store that's, of course, fine as well. You need to start somewhere.

Still, it's a lot of work to set up a store. Often you need to re-create your previews (because of the store's requirements) and you need to add a description, package your product or maybe even re-package it and upload.
So if you think that you can join 10 other shops as well - sure you can and sure you most probably will earn money in all of them - but - you won't be able to take care of all of them.
Been there, done that - that's why I can say for sure that it's not the best option to apply for every single store. You won't be able to handle them all - if you still wanna make products.
Giving a platform you are selling at not enough attention means that you won't make enough money from it which will make you, in the end, unhappy and believe that the site is "just not right for you" while in reality you are spreading yourself thin.

Believe me it's not worth it.

It's much better you pick ONE store (for the beginning at least) and add your products there, participate in their community and advertise your products. Test the market. See which products are selling - and which not. Of course create more of those who are 😉

In any case: Don't give up. If being a Graphic Designer is your career choice you should go for it. Go all in and do your very best to make it work.
